Gazing upon a fictional ghost town: Juan Rulfo’s Comala and the convergence of dark tourism and literary tourism.

Overlooking the town of San Gabriel in Mexico stands a monument which attracts aficionados Juan Rulfo’s novel Pedro Paramo. inspired creation fictional Comala, deserted haunted by past residents. The main objective paper was to explore, from conceptual perspective lieux de imagination (Reijnders, 2011) whether some imagine that is Comala. Furthermore, considering dark characteristics possibility specific visitors undergo thanatopsis also considered. A qualitative approach research deemed appropriate methodology answer questions and accomplish overall aim, hence twenty semi-structured interviews were conducted over course two days at monument. findings demonstrated all participants attracted (and monument) because it childhood home Rulfo inspiration for while vast majority imagined transformed into Meanwhile, smaller but significant proportion underwent thanatological experience. It suggested this experience an example Debordian tourism, signifying place literary tourism occasionally converge.
